Autumn Learning

Kestrels have had a fantastic return to school this year! They have blended in well with their new class structure and have already wowed us with their knowledge and readiness for learning.
We had Kate from Earth Energy Education come into school to teach us about renewable energy and solar farms. On the first day we did a workshop experiencing solar power and how we could use it to replace batteries in circuits to power light bulbs, buzzers and motors. We then used tools that an electrician would use to test how much electricity was being powered using different amounts of light.
After the in school workshop we had a trip to Wyld solar farm. We had a tour around the solar farm learning about how the solar panels work and had any of our questions answered by a solar technician. We then explored the biodiversity of the farm.
In art, we have learnt how to use watercolour in different ways. Today we tried to apply this to painting different feathers.
Kestrels had their first experience playing brass instruments at Axe Valley this week.
In science we have been learning how to make classification keys.
In PE we have been practicing our gymnastic skills and working on our jumps and our balances.
Kestrels had a fantastic time at the Eden project exploring the biomes.

In art we were looking at different artists who explored birds including Mark Hearld and Jackie Morris. We created various pieces including hanging birds and watercolour paintings. For our final piece, we used origami to create bird sculptures out of printed designs exploring pattern and the natural world.
