Science 17th March- testing for absorbency

In Science, Woodpeckers have been thinking about the properties of different materials. We tested 5 different materials to see which was the most absorbent. Before our experiment, we took turns lining up the materials in the order we thought they would be - least absorbent to most absorbent. There were a few variations in our thinking, but most Woodpeckers thought the towel would be the winning material.
We poured the same amount of water over each material and then compared the amount of water which came through / ran off each one. We concluded that the towel was the most absorbent and the tin foil and plastic bag were the least absorbent.
The cotton wool made us think . . .  it absorbed a good amount of water but the water could be squeezed out; the water could not be squeezed out of the towel.
